Spotted in Shop 4 Kids

The latest edition of Shop 4 Kids is jam-packed with stylish summer buys, just in time for Christmas.
I spotted a few of my Hiccups designs amongst the pages filled with wonderful offerings. It's amazing how much the industry involving children's design has grown over the last ten years - when I finished university there was only a sprinkling of kid's fashion print design jobs, and the kid's bed linen / homewares segment was a tiny one. In the Sheridan Design studio only one or two children's designs were produced each year. Times have changed!

Fairy Bower

Whoops! I have forgotten to post about the last bed linen design I completed for the Hiccups
Summer 11/12 collection - a print and embroidered design named 'Fairy Bower'.

Time for bed

Lenny is a big fan of tractors and headers, so I was very pleased to hear that he loves his Hiccups 'Field Days' farm theme bed linen. A big thank-you to my cousin Clare for sending me this photo of Lenny and his baby brother Herb (quite possibly another tractor fan) at bed-time.

Spotted on The Renovators

My brother spotted my bed linen and wall sticker designs featured in Mel's winning room on the Channel 10 TV Show The Renovators.

Mel chose the Ticketty Boo yarn-dyed stripe bed linen and teamed it with a variety of cushions and plush toys from the Hiccups range. Good work Mel!

Spring forest

I have always loved using pencils in my art work. Here is a piece I created one night in front of the TV for a Hiccups bed linen photoshoot.

Add a simple Ikea frame and voila!

Amazing Amazon available online

I used one of my favourite print making techniques (monoprint) when designing the artwork for 'Amazing Amazon' - one of my final designs for the Hiccups Linen House for Kids bed linen collections. 'Amazing Amazon' is now available from Myer.

It almost feels like summer around here! This new yarn dye stripe for boys features rows of seersucker stripes, adding a retro feel to this easy to live with design.

Rev Heads

A new design for little boys who love the sound of a humming engine.
I designed 'Rev Heads' in a painted paper collage technique, using lots of different textures to create a feeling of movement. These machines like to go fast!

The Amazing Amazon

'Amazing Amazon' is a new bed linen design for kids for the 'Hiccups' brand. I created this textile design using a monoprint outline technique, coloured in with gouache. I thoroughly enjoyed researching about the wonderful inhabitants who reside in the Amazon rain forest, and I hope many young explorers and adventurers will too!

Vintage Belle

Here are a few images of my last (and final) range for the Hiccups bed linen collection. The Vintage Belle range of designs were inspired by my love of vintage floral fabrics, botanical illustrations, and 1930's children's picture books. Each design was hand-painted using water colour, colour pencil and gouache.

Back to the drawing board

It's time to get started on the next Hiccups range - Winter 2012. I like to tackle the girls designs first - its always nice to design a floral or two in between the trucks, tractors and aeroplanes!

Behind the scenes

Ahh, the not so glamourous world of photoshoots! Danielle and I have spent the last few days creating a variety of room sets for the new Hiccups Summer 2011/12 designs - with a lot of help from the S.A.S furniture brothers and their woodworking / construction skills. Our photographer has produced some lovely shots, and with a tiny bit of tweaking our rather haphazard constructions should look just like a little girl's dream bedroom!

Setting the scene

Our Hiccups designs are released twice a year, and the latest collection for Summer 2011/12 has just been unveiled to customers at the Linenhouse Market Week. As soon as the last customer has departed the showroom a mad rush of photographing each bed linen design takes place. Yesterday we had a very early start (no Royal Wedding hang-overs permitted!) and created a couple of set designs from scratch, including this blackboard design which I worked on with the aid of a few bottles of Diet Coke. I love the contrast of this yellow Tolix chair against the chalkboard background.

Hiccups Babies at the Baby and Toddler Show

It was a very busy three days and my legs are killing me, but it was great to see the positive reaction to our new Hiccups Babies designs at the Melbourne Baby and Toddler show!
Mia was one of the many little girls who decided to test out our new 'Bunny Patch' design.
