Summer blooms

So far we have had a pretty mild start to summer, but there is a heat-wave in Perth right now so I don't think the air conditioner will be idle for much longer.... The garden has provided lots of drawing subject matter over the past month, hopefully I will be able to show some of the floral designs I have been working on in January!

I'm slowly filling up the flower beds along the front pathway with dry tolerant lavenders, salvias, pelargoniums and daisies.

Anenomes

I planted these mixed colour anemone bulbs last year. I might have to make time for a bit of flower painting this week - I think these could be perfect subjects for a watercolour and coloured pencil textile design....

Purple (magenta) haze

This jungly mass of bougainvillea is slowly taking over the old pepper-trees on either side of it. I love the purple blooms.

Old wares, good finds

I love to explore country Old Wares and Op shops every now and then, and one of my favourites is in the little town of Elmore, located between Bendigo and Echuca in northern Victoria, and not far from home. Sunday's stash included a few embroidered table linens, an embroidery pattern book from the 1930's and a beautiful (and very textile-y) Mason's Sampler pattern cake plate.

Curiouser and curiouser

These rather mysterious and whimsical ceramics from Anthropologie are adapted from the paintings of the talented New Orleans artist Rebecca Rebouche. I wonder if these would survive the long journey to Australia intact?

The medallion shaped dinnerware collection is named Curious Deciduous, and I would love to see a few plates displayed on my kitchen wall.

Waiting for the paint to dry

Now that the colder temperatures are beginning to settle in it takes a little longer for my water colour textile designs to dry out between each colour application - a perfect excuse for a little wander around blog land....
