Liberty & Co in the Fifties and Sixties

Liberty and Co. in the Fifties and Sixties: A Taste for Design by Anna Buruma is a treasure trove of the wonderful Liberty fabric designs from this era. Boldly coloured, exotic, and avant garde - many of the top designers of the period such as Lucienne Day, Colleen Farr, Jacqueline Groag and Robert Stewart were commissioned by Liberty & Co. to create cutting edge designs for furnishing and fashion fabrics.
This book gives a great insight into a less well-recognised moment in the history of Liberty & Co, a moment filled with riotous Carnaby Street patterns as well as the colourful revivals of Art Nouveau, Orientalism and Art Deco styles.

Leo Lionni

I love the fact that so many classic children's picture books from the 50's and 60's are being re-issued for a whole new generation of children (and designers!) to enjoy.
Leo Lionni is a fine example of an author and illustrator whose work is now enjoying a resurgence of interest. Lionni (1910-1999) wrote and illustrated more than 40 children's books from 1959 onwards, including Swimmy, Frederick, Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse, and An Extraordinary Egg. He was a four-time Caldecott Honor winner and recipient of the American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal.
Tico and the Golden Wings (1964) is one of my favourite Lionni titles, and is illustrated in a wonderful dot and stroke painterly effect. Learn more about Lionni's picture books at the Random House Kids website.

Robots on the wall

Robots, robots, robots. These re-positional wall stickers create a fun space for boys. And don't forget Harris and Steve, our wacky robot novelty cushions!

Mocchi Mocchi - Japanese prints

After purchasing a couple of gorgeous Mocchi Mocchi cards from Woodmasterne, I wandered onto the Mocchi Mocchi website to find these lovely hand silk-screened post cards for sale. I received my order last week, and these artworks are even more beautiful in real life; printed onto hand-made rice paper and wrapped in layers of tissue paper. I have just dropped them into the local framers - I can't wait to hang them on my lounge room wall.

Greetings 70's style

Birthday cards, greeting cards, thank-you cards: I realised on the weekend that I have collected and kept pretty much every item of decorative card that has ever come my way! My collection includes sickly sweet Strawberry Shortcake scented birthday cards, Holly Hobbie-orama, painted kitties and puppies, 80's girls listening to the latest tapes (Now you are a teenager!), and many hazy water colour garden scenes, irises being particularly represented. None of these seem to have the same appeal as the stash of engagement and wedding cards belonging to my parents and recently 're-found'. Here are a few of my favourite 1970's engagement cards.
