Introducing Meander Designs

Wishing you all a lovely festive season - it has been quite a while between posts here in 2015!

In between freelance design projects I have been working towards the launch of a collection of homeware products inspired by Australia's unique flora and fauna, featuring my hand painted watercolour designs.
First to launch in the Meander collection are four tea towel designs, printed locally in Melbourne using non-toxic eco friendly inks.
Printed on 75% linen / 25% cotton tea towels, these designs are an easy-to-post gift to friends and family near and far.

I still have a few well-thumbed copies of Domino Magazine stashed away in my studio, saved from the time before the magazine sadly fell victim to the global financial crisis. Newly relaunched and with a strong on-line presence, Domino seems to have hit the right note again with their design savvy readers.
As a fan of the magazine, I leaped at the chance to enter the Minted x Domino art challenge, and am pleased that my artwork 'Indigo Leaves' was one of thirty pieces selected by the Domino editors to be sold at domino.com and featured in the magazine.

A box of goodness

The other day my Dad walked into my studio carrying a box bearing my name and address (as I live in a remote rural location the mail is delivered only three times a week and all packages have to be picked up and signed for from the local general store). I couldn't recall ordering anything on-line of late, so this was quite a surprise. 

The lovely Mona from Cottonbox had sent me a sample of all of my new designs for Cottonbox Kids. 

Herbie and Bonjour the cat were my volunteer but very camera-shy models!

'Aviator' bed linen design

Hot off the press (or in this case, printing table) is my design for bed linen,

 'Aviator' by Cottonbox Kids.

Bi-planes, monoplanes, jet fighters, cargo planes and bombers all take to the sky for some aeronautical adventures. These magnificent flying machines from the first few decades of the 20th century have been hand drawn and painted in intricate detail - a perfect bed linen design for boys who admire these wonderful early feats of modern aeronautical engineering. Many of these robust aeroplanes can still be seen performing at Air Shows today.

The 'Aviator' design is printed on a lovely 100% cotton, 225 thread count base cloth, and is available in single and double quilt sizing.

Curiouser and curiouser

These rather mysterious and whimsical ceramics from Anthropologie are adapted from the paintings of the talented New Orleans artist Rebecca Rebouche. I wonder if these would survive the long journey to Australia intact?

 The medallion shaped dinnerware collection is named Curious Deciduous, and I would love to see a few plates displayed on my kitchen wall.

An amicable design for ceramics

I love the hand-drawn qualities and colouration of this dinnerware design by ceramicist Molly Hatch for Anthropologie. And I love the name of the design too - Amicable Aster. Very sweet!

I have spent the last few hours gazing at these beautiful Kantha cloth images from the Sha D'Lei range now on sale at One King's Lane. The colour combinations are totally unexpected to my Western eye, yet there is something very harmonious about every single piece.

 I love this palette of mint, navy, lilac and coffee brown.
